Ohisashiburi yet again!!
This time I’m making the post on the spot so it doesn’t go into a limbo again (*`∀´*) Maybe one day I’ll get used to this blogging thing!!
Today I went to Design Festa! Design Festa is a big event focused on independent artists and designers. From their description on Facebook: “Unregulated and uncensored, Design Festa is Asia’s largest art and performance event and Japan’s single most diverse mecca of artistic expression.” Wow!!
The event is located on Tokyo Big Sight, and happens twice a year AFAIK. Visiting Big Sight is like a dream come true, even if it isn’t Comiket *_*
Design Festa is like a big craft fair. It has a few workshops and there are two stages where several bands do presentations through the day, but the biggest focus of the event are the small booths where independent artists and designers sell their stuff.
There was also plenty of lolitas, steampunks or people dressing up. I found quite a few object heads (or rather cube heads), one furry (or rather kemono??) and many dark’n edgy costumes, complete with witch doctor-esque masks. Not many pictures of them because I’m kinda shy to ask pics of real people, sorry (´・ω・`)
Being from Brazil, I was completely stunned by the event. A space this big to share, promote and sell your art to not only fellow artists but also the general public sounds like a dream. We hardly have artist alleys or doujin fairs, let alone something of this size where all kind of artists can share the same space.
The booths all had very different compositions. Many of the artists decided to paint the booth walls behind them, and you could see many working on them throughout the day.
Now for some booth pictures! The booth information will be under the pics. This is just 1% of was available on the event, that thing was HUGE and had stuff for all tastes.

This was a CD player which looked like a pan and had speakers that were rice bowls and had rice jumping from the music waves and making an infernal sound. Ok.
I ate this tasty thing which I still don’t know what it was. I thought it was a meat bread roll but it was actually me, Rice

The guy from this booth actually tried to strike a conversation with me!
“All this characters are from a story I’m creating.”
“Oh, is it a comic?”
“No.”
“Huh… Only in your head?”
“Yeah”
“There are those black things, this archer and this mage, and dragons and aliens. It’s a fantasy story.”
“そうですか。”
It didn’t work out too well I think, but seems rad I guess?? (´・ω・`)

Failed to get card again… Actually I think they didn’t have.
Well, that’s it!! For the loot of the event… I got nothing OTL I was so overwhelmed by everything that I decided to see the whole fair before starting buying stuff, but before I knew it it was 6pm and I hadn’t seen even half of the stuff yet! (I didn’t even visit the fourth floor, which had even more stuff!! ><) So I ended up buying just a few gifts for some friends. But next time I shall know better!!
